How to book the CBR theory exam in English

Before you start

• DigiD. You need DigiD to log in to Mijn CBR. DigiD requires a citizen service number (BSN), which you get when you register at your municipality.
• Your identity document. You bring it on the day, and the details on it must match the municipal register (BRP).
• Payment. You pay online at the end of the booking.

Booking on Mijn CBR, step by step

The steps below use the labels of the Dutch version of Mijn CBR, with their meaning in English.

1. Log in on Mijn CBR with DigiD.
2. Choose 'Examen reserveren of wijzigen', which means book or change an exam.
3. Choose the vehicle: the car.
4. Choose the theory exam in English. On its English pages the CBR calls it 'Theory test for car drivers in English'. There is also a version with extra time.
5. Pick a location, date and time.
6. Check your booking and your personal details. The confirmation goes to your email address.
7. Accept the terms and conditions.
8. Pay online to complete the booking.

Booking without DigiD

If you live abroad or do not have DigiD for another reason, you can still book.

1. Fill in the CBR application form for the theory exam and send it to the CBR.
2. The CBR sends you a payment request.
3. Once you have paid, you receive the invitation for the exam by email.

Letting your driving school book for you

You can authorise your driving school in Mijn CBR to book on your behalf. The CBR points out that a driving school may charge extra for doing so.

On the day of the exam

• Bring a valid identity document and your reservation number. Without valid ID you cannot take the exam.
• In the exam room you may only have your identity document with you.
• The exam has 50 questions and lasts 30 minutes; you need 44 right. Since 7 April 2025 it is one exam instead of three separate parts.
• Once you pass, the result is valid for one and a half years.

Need more time, or another language?

If you need more time, choose the English exam with extra time. For other languages the CBR offers the theory exam with an interpreter from an approved interpreting agency, which you must arrange at least two weeks before the exam. You cannot bring your own interpreter.
