CBR health declaration (Gezondheidsverklaring) explained in English
Before your first Dutch driving licence you fill in a health declaration (Gezondheidsverklaring) in Mijn CBR. It costs €46,90 and you hear within 4 weeks. Fill it in as soon as you start lessons: your driving school can only book your practical test once the CBR has decided you are fit to drive. If you answer yes to a health question, the CBR sends you to a doctor first.
Who needs it
Everyone who takes the practical driving test for a first licence. The CBR first decides whether you are fit to drive, and only then can your driving school book the practical test. The theory exam does not depend on it, so you can sit that first.
How to fill it in
- Log in to Mijn CBR with DigiD and choose the health declaration (Gezondheidsverklaring).
- Answer the questions about your health honestly: you are required to tell the truth.
- Pay €46,90 online and submit.
The form is in Dutch. Take your time with each question; if you are unsure what one means, ask your driving instructor or use a translation tool for that question only.
What happens next
| Your answers | What the CBR does | Time |
|---|---|---|
| No to all health questions | Decides you are fit to drive | Within 4 weeks |
| Yes to one or more | Sends you to a doctor or specialist for an examination; you pay the doctor | Longer, depending on the examination |
After a positive decision you have at most three years to take your exams for that licence. If the CBR declares you fit for a shorter period, that period applies.
Fill in the health declaration in your first week of lessons. It is the step that most often delays the practical test, and the theory exam does not wait for it: the CBR theory exam in English.
The whole route: how to get a driving licence in the Netherlands. The practical test: can you take it in English?
